About the Department/College
The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program at NAU is housed within the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training in the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS). The DPT Program offers one hybrid and two residential Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs-one at the Phoenix Bioscience Core (PBC) and the other on the Flagstaff Mountain Campus.
As part of NAU's New Economy Initiative, the DPT Program plays a crucial role in educating future physical therapists who will address health disparities in Arizona and beyond. Program members collaborate with community, clinical, and academic partners to break down barriers and increase access to physical therapy education, ensuring a well-prepared workforce for the evolving healthcare landscape.
About the Position
The NAU Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is at the forefront of Competency and Entrustment-Based Education (CEBE), a progressive approach designed to meet the diverse and evolving healthcare needs of society. This model integrates learning outcomes and assessments across didactic and clinical education, ensuring graduates are fully prepared for the complexities of contemporary physical therapy practice.
The DPT Program seeks a highly motivated and innovative faculty member who embraces this CEBE paradigm shift and is adept at utilizing technology to enhance health professions education. With a specialized faculty team, we welcome applications from candidates with expertise across all primary areas of physical therapy practice.
Responsibilities Include
• Curriculum Development: Design and implement curriculum content for the physical therapy program.
• Teaching: Deliver lectures, lead discussions, and provide hands-on learning experiences to students.
• Research: Conduct scholarly research activities, publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, and participate in research collaborations within the field.
• Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to students, fostering their professional growth.
• Clinical Practice: Demonstrate clinical skills related to neurophysiological and primary care practice, integrating real-world experiences into educational programs.
• Collaboration: Engage in interdisciplinary collaborations with colleagues and healthcare professionals to advance knowledge and practice in the field.
• Professional Development: Stay updated on advancements in areas of clinical expertise, teaching methodologies, and evidence-based practices to enhance teaching and research efforts.
• Assessment: Evaluate student performance, assess learning outcomes, and provide feedback to support student progress and program improvement.
Minimum Qualifications
For all ranks:
• Entry-level degree in physical therapy from an accredited institution.
• Terminal academic doctoral degree (i.e., PhD, EdD, DSc) from an accredited institution in a field related to physical therapy.
• Minimum of 3 years of full-time post-licensure clinical practice experience.
• Academic experience with a physical therapist education program.
• Contemporary expertise in a variety of clinical and foundational content areas.
• Eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in Arizona.
For Assistant Clinical Professor (all the above, and):
• The above qualifications.
For Associate Clinical Professor (all the above, and):
• Previous or current academic appointment at rank, or academic record equivalent to associate clinical professor.
• Full-time 5 years of academic experience within a physical therapy education program.
For Clinical Professor (all the above, and):
• Previous or current academic appointment at rank, or academic record equivalent to full clinical professor.
• Leadership experience within a physical therapy education program or a health care-related education program.
• Advancement of physical therapy education or practice through scholarly work.
*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.

Compensation
Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
Pre-Employment Check
Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Each year Northern Arizona University releases an https://in.nau.edu/police-department/annual-security-and-fire-safety-reports/. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the https://in.nau.edu/police-department/annual-security-and-fire-safety-reports/ is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing.
