Study Italy's rich history, culture and cuisine and develop research and communication skills that come from fluency in multiple languages. Prepare for a career in one of the many industries influenced by Italian customs and traditions, such as fashion, design, sustainability, manufacturing and more.
The BA program in Italian gives students the necessary skills to speak, write, read and comprehend Italian. Participants develop the ability to think critically, understand and appreciate the historical and contemporary cultures of the Italian peninsula and their relationship to other global traditions, and develop empathy as globally informed leaders.
Students complete several courses on topics such as:

- culture
- film
- government
- history
- literature
- religion
Students have a choice of four different faculty-directed programs in Italy in which they can focus on developing their linguistic skills and learn more about Italy's contemporary responses to global challenges such as natural disasters and the industrialized food system.

Students majoring or minoring in Italian have the opportunity to participate in a Global Education program in Italy while taking courses in a variety of areas. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences recommends these programs for students majoring in Italian.

3 year programs
These programs allow students to fast-track their studies after admission and earn a bachelor's degree in three years or fewer while participating in the same high-quality educational experience of a 4-year option. Students should talk to their academic advisor to get started.
Accelerated master's
These programs allow students to accelerate their studies to earn a bachelor's plus a master's degree in as few as five years (for some programs).
