Summary The Deputy Chief of Staff position reports to the Chief of Staff. The Deputy Chiefs of Staff will supervise the Chiefs of Audiology Speech Pathology, Clinical Informatics, Dental, Education, Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Pharmacy, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Primary Care, Radiology, Surgery, Medicine, Psychiatry, Psychology, Geriatrics & Extended Care, Research, or any other clinical services or programs as determined by the facility Medical Center Director and/or Chief of Staff. Responsibilities VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Duties include but not limited to the following: Develops clinical strategies to increase unique Veterans service, increase complexity of care delivered, and assure vesting of all eligible Veterans by: Designing processes to assure that consults/requests for inpatient and outpatient care are clinically completed within mandated timelines. Designing processes to ensure timely documentation of encounters (within 24 hours of encounter). Improving workload capture through improved transcription and attending encounter completion to assure transcription is completed within 72 hours of event and electronic signature by provider within 24 hours of transcribed document availability. Develops clinical strategies and assures clinical leadership oversight for effective use of institutional resources by: Developing facility-wide strategic planning and leading in the execution of those initiatives. Providing oversight for clinical budget operations. Becoming knowledgeable of lean processes and will hold yellow belt or higher certificate in Lean training. Improving patient satisfaction scores by effectively using data sources, such as the Patient Advocate Tracking System, focus groups, etc. to develop improvement processes. Improving employee satisfaction by effectively using data sources, such as the All Employee Survey to develop improvement processes. Improving pharmaceutical utilization. Acts as an effective executive leadership member by: Acting for and in the absence of the Chief of Staff when the Chief of Staff is on leave or travel status. Attending daily morning report. Participating in meetings of the facility executive leadership (Director, Deputy Director, Associate Director, Chief of Staff, Nurse Executive, Deputy Nurse Executive, Deputy Chief of Staff). Improves quality of care by achieving: Implementation, monitoring, and successful outcomes of facility-wide performance measures. Excellence in the quality of care to inpatients with heart disease and pneumonia. Excellence in the delivery of care to patients with diabetes, hypertension, and mental health disorders. Excellence in Radiology screening. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm Telework: May be authorized 1-2 days a pay period. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Dentist Basic Requirements A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~ Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Preferred Experience: Service Line or Hospital Senior level experience Grade Determinations: Chief of Staff. A Chief of Staff must serve on a full-time basis. The Chief of Staff develops and maintains currently accepted management practices throughout the clinical services. The Chief of Staff develops and presents the budgetary requirements of the clinical services and assists in the formulation of the annual budget program. The Chief of Staff is fully responsible to the Medical Center Director for programs of patient care and for the educational and research activities of the clinical services. To carry out these responsibilities, the Chief of Staff: Formulates and recommends plans for a comprehensive program of medical care; Develops the requirements of staff, facilities, equipment and supplies needed to carry forward such an integrated program, utilizing necessary reviews and controls; and Appraises the effectiveness of the various medical programs in meeting the needs of patient care.
