This position is based in Tucson working part time from the hospital and part time remotely. This is a 40-hour work week, typically 8-5 during the weekdays, but there are some evening, nights and holiday requirements as this position takes PR on-call for the system a few weeks out of the year. In this role you would oversee the day-to-day marketing and PR for Banner – University Medicine (Tucson) and the services in the surrounding market. You are the main point of contact for relationship building with UA marketing counterparts.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing the delivery team with support, guidance, and counsel on any marketing, public relations, and crisis communication issues. This position provides leadership in building the Banner brand both internally and externally. It requires the ability to understand the culture of the organization, and based on that understanding, tailor marketing and communication strategies, tactics and tools to grow the Banner business.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Manages assigned relationships through consultation and regional stakeholders. Provides counsel and selected content support to entity leaders related to strategic communications and reputation risk-management.

2. Directs overall growth and development of regional marketing and public relations strategies. Works with entity senior executives to develop and implement an annual comprehensive plan that is directly tied to the entity performance, organizational strategic initiatives and reputation management.

3. Responsible for contribution of health system earned media goals.

4. Ensures the timely development and execution of plans, campaigns, and projects to assure grown goals are achieved.

5. Plans, develops and defends budget recommendations, work goals, measurements, and training requirements necessary to provide both quality and accountable service.

6. Executes duties and assignments as directed in compliance with corporate guidelines and objectives.

7. Maintains awareness and controls situations that may lead to risk and non-compliance, as well as crisis communications.

8. Maintains open and complete communications of issues with leaders and corporate management. May support the defining, development and execution of strategic system-wide communications and campaigns.

9. This position provides leadership in building the Banner brand both internally and externally. This position has freedom to determine how best to accomplish functions within established marketing parameters. This position will be responsible for various crisis communications which require quick, independent decision-making. This position will be responsible for developing marketing plans for programs that fall within their respective regions. This position will interact with c-suite level individuals at facilities in their regions, along with the facilities’ leadership teams. In addition, this position will interact with the marketing/PR shared services team as well as various other corporate services departments. The individual will also interact with external leaders and community organizations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a strong knowledge of public relations and communications as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in communications, business administration, marketing or related field.

Skill level as typically evidenced through seven to ten years healthcare public relations experience in a large organization. Must possess a significant knowledge and understanding of major trends in healthcare and mass communication required. Previous experience dealing with the media and serving as spokesperson for an organization. Excellent communication skills and demonstrated comfort level with public speaking in front of large audiences. Must demonstrate the ability to deal effectively with conflict and manage relations that balance system needs and entity priorities. Knowledge of modern graphic and production methods required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree preferred. Proven supervisory experience strongly preferred. Prior experience in healthcare public relations strongly preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
