The School of Molecular Sciences (SMS) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for a full-time, nine-month Teaching Professor (all ranks) position with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2025. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure eligible position, renewable on an academic year basis (Aug 16 – May 15), contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate level in organic chemistry but may also be asked to contribute to teaching in other chemistry programs, depending upon prior experience. Courses may include those in both in-person and online formats. In addition to teaching, responsibilities will include supervising teaching assistants and junior faculty, undertaking unit, college, and university-level service, and developing course materials and future program plans in conjunction with other faculty and staff.

The School of Molecular Sciences at Arizona State University is an organization of more than 65 faculty members, 100 staff, and 2000 graduate and undergraduate students who work at the forefront of science and technology innovation and education. Required Qualifications:

Assistant Teaching Professor
• PhD degree in organic chemistry, or a closely related field by the time of appointment
• Ability to teach in digital environments such as Canvas (asynchronously and/or synchronously)
• One year of post-secondary teaching experience as faculty of record in an organic chemistry course
• Familiarity with laboratory safety policies
• Effective teaching ability (as evidenced by included peer and/or student reviews)
Associate Teaching Professor
• In addition to the required qualifications stated above, the successful candidate in this rank should provide evidence of at least five (5) years of college or university-level teaching in organic chemistry or a related field
• Effective teaching ability (as evidenced by teaching evaluation, course development, and innovative teaching practices)
• Evidence of contributing to curriculum development, programmatic responsibilities, and departmental service responsibilities, such as faculty committees

Teaching Professor (full rank)
• In addition to the required qualifications stated above, the successful candidate in this rank should provide evidence of at least seven (7) years of college or university-level teaching in organic chemistry or a related field
• Evidence of a leadership role in curriculum development, programmatic responsibilities, and departmental service responsibilities such as faculty committees

Desired Qualifications
• Experience in creating curricula and teaching organic chemistry both in-person and online
• Record of using active learning and non-traditional models of instruction
• Demonstrated commitment to serving and understanding the needs of online students
• Experience teaching and developing curricula for organic chemistry lab course(s)
• Experience supervising and mentoring teaching assistants
• Evidence of collaborative activities with other faculty and staff
• Participation in the higher education community and professional development activities (for example, authoring educational and scientific publications, presenting at conferences, attending workshops, etc.)
• Evidence of scholarship or research in organic chemistry or chemical education
