Job Description

Campus Living at Northern Arizona University houses over 8,100 students and staff in 17 campus living communities (CLCs), including traditional-, suite- and apartment-styles. Position Overview

The Campus Living Initiatives and Partnerships (CLIP) Coordinator role is a 12-month, full-time, live-on position, reporting directly to one of two Assistant Directors (AD), for Campus Living Initiatives and Partnerships (CLIP). As two of five CLIP Coordinators, the Community and Connectedness-centric role supports students, staff and the department in advancing our mission and foundational value areas through effective, intentional and innovative initiatives and campus partnerships related to student organization advising, getting involved on campus, and understanding community impacts and the Learning and Development-centric role supports students, staff and the department in advancing our mission and foundational value areas through effective, intentional and innovative initiatives and campus partnerships related to academic success strategies, 100% career readiness, and developing life skills.

Each CLIP Coordinator has a primary focus on a designated foundational value or affinity housing area (Care and Support; Community and Connectedness; Equity and Inclusion; Learning and Development; Indigenous Peoples Living-Learning Community) for which they further identify and foster initiatives and campus partnerships. This includes helping to initiate, develop, enhance, support and assess programmatic, staffing and financial collaborative efforts with campus partners that provide a synergistic living experience connecting community, wellness, and career and academic purpose elements. In addition to their primary value area, CLIP Coordinators work regularly as a team to provide additional shared energy and resources to support emerging and/or complex initiatives.

Each CLIP Coordinator directly supervises one to two (1-2) CLIP Graduate Assistants and leads a team of approximately 5-10 student staff. Collectively, the team supports both the Coordinator's primary value area and any designated team efforts across areas, including providing academic and career support in the campus living communities (CLCs). Working directly with the CLC staff and Campus Living Operations (CLO) staff, the CLIP staff help to implement a community engagement model in each CLC that reflects current student development needs and trends. As a member of the Campus Living team, the CLIP Coordinator contributes to inclusive excellence efforts, and supports the mission and values of Campus Living, the division of Student Affairs, and the NAU Elevating Excellence Strategic Roadmap.

Summer Responsibilities:

Campus Living serves a variety of populations during the summer months including NAU students, academic program participants, and conference guests. CLIP Coordinators help ensure continuity of all departmental operations during the summer, and participate in the hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of summer student staff. Participation in the on-call rotation, oversight of building preparations and turnovers, and customer service focused efforts are included in summer responsibilities.

Work Environment

This position is a live-on position that focuses on enhancing the student experience. This may require work outside of normal business hours due to engagement efforts and on-call responsibilities.

Campus Living Initiatives and Partnerships - 40%

• Establish key initiatives and campus resource/academic college partnerships within foundational value area(s). Work as a team to support and manage additional focus and resources toward emerging and/or complex initiatives that may align with another and/or multiple foundational value areas.
• Initiate and maintain ongoing partnerships with faculty and campus resources, to develop and implement targeted programs using the curricular approach, initiatives and resources that support Campus Living foundational values, Student Affairs priorities, and the NAU Strategic Roadmap priorities and approaches.
• Implement the Campus Living Curriculum through identifying, initiating, developing, enhancing, supporting and assessing programmatic, staffing and financial collaborative efforts with campus partners that generate a synergistic living experience connecting community, wellness, and academic and career purpose elements.
• Implement determined priorities for the departmental community engagement framework supporting the intersection of academic and career purpose, wellness, and community life for first year through senior/grad housing in the CLCs.
• Collaborate using the Campus Living Curriculum with Campus Living Communities staff and campus partners to develop and implement programs and initiatives that support student success and provide targeted resources for residents in specific campus living communities.
• Manage and assess ongoing program planning and implementation, including annual and special assessment data relative to student learning, community development and inclusion, student engagement and retention and resident satisfaction. Utilize results for program enhancement (e.g., Campus Living Experience, climate surveys, Pulse Survey, First-Year Success Inventory). Review assessment practices and results for programmatic initiatives with the Student Affair Strategic Initiatives staff.
• Establish goals and priorities for building inclusive communities; promote and demonstrate the department's Commitment to Inclusive Communities and contribute to environments that value and respect individuals, and integrate an awareness and appreciation of differences.
• Run and monitor staff programming reports; identify and share trends and opportunities for community and resident engagement activities through quarterly reports.
• Lead the coordination and/or participate in the implementation of Campus Living Signature Events/Programs intended to enhance the NAU campus living experience, including Welcome Jacks move-in assistance programs, The Letters event and other large-scale efforts; collaborate in planning campus-wide events including Lumberjack Welcome, Running of the Freshmen, NAU Homecoming, Can I Kiss You?, Family Weekend, cultural programming, athletics events, and other partnered efforts.
• Manage assigned area of additional responsibilities to include student organization advising (Campus Living Student Association, National Residence Hall Honorary, or other partnered student organizations), focused housing community, volunteer program oversight, and class instruction.
• Remain current in emerging professional trends and programs that add value to the campus living experience.

Staff Supervision and Development - 30%

• Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate 1-2 Graduate Assistants for Campus Living Initiatives and Partnerships (CLIP) and lead 4-10 student employees within the full CLIP team.
• Organize and facilitate staff development activities to promote a strong sense of team and support.
• Provide clear, comprehensive, and timely performance feedback to graduate assistants on a regular basis.
• Engage staff members in intentional and expansive conversations and development opportunities around inclusive excellence.
• Facilitate staff meetings and participate in centralized staff meetings and in-services. Attend monthly collaboration CLIP/CLC student employee meetings generally occurring Wednesday nights from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
• Participate in departmental staffing efforts, including inclusive, intentional and comprehensive recruitment, selection, onboarding, and training processes.

Administration, Operations and Facilities - 15%

• Utilize software to manage student engagement reports, student employment, etc.; become proficient with primary management systems such as StarRez and True Blue Connects.
• Review and collaborate with supervisor/other ADs to authorize expenditures for campus living initiatives, partnership programs and staff development; ensure compliance and accuracy with Campus Living and NAU budgetary guidelines.
• Provide input and feedback for facilities enhancements that support CLIP efforts and student needs; work with staff to determine appropriate needs and improvements.
• Participate in CLC supervision and operational coverage as needed during temporary vacancies.

• Hire, train, supervise and evaluate summer student staff.
• Respond to emergencies, critical incidents and resident concerns during scheduled on-call shifts.
• Oversee building preparations and community member turnovers.

Staff/Student Support and Crisis/Critical Response - 5%

• Provide and share on-call coverage for campus, including weekday, weekend, and holidays.
• Use key systems such as StarRez and Maxient in addition to collaborating and consulting with Manager on-call for high-impact situations involving students to refer, report, and follow up with CLC staff accordingly.
• Address emergency and crisis situations appropriately as they arise and work to mitigate community impact.
• Provide support, guidance and appropriate referrals for residents in need of professional services and resources; be knowledgeable of campus and community resources.
• Apply conflict resolution skills when responding to students in crisis, roommate conflicts, student concerns, etc.
• Understand and reinforce the policies and procedures of the NAU Student Code of Conduct and Campus Living Community Policies.

Departmental Engagement - 5%

• Serve on departmental committees, ad-hoc groups, etc. to coordinate and manage processes, develop schedules and trainings, address critical issues impacting students and staff, and respond to other departmental needs/topics.
• Attend scheduled weekly departmental meetings and other staff meetings, workshops, and developmental opportunities.
• Facilitate designated departmental student employee trainings in August and January. Plan and implement specific staff training sessions related to the role and areas of improvement.

Other - 5%

• Other Duties as Assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Undergraduate Bachelor's Degree.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience.
• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or related field (completed by start date).

Driving Requirement

Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver's license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Salary

Salary range begins at $44,422. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
